This year we are fortunate to have the assistance of the Roanoke Master Gardeners give presentations and/or hands on instructions each month. We have a number of beginners to experienced gardeners who are always on the look out for new tricks or tidbits of knowledge. Check out the information below and come out and join us.

June 20th – Build Better Soil: The Foundation of a Healthy Garden
Healthy gardens start with healthy soil! Learn how to evaluate your garden soil and improve it using compost and organic matter. Participants will perform simple soil tests and amend garden beds as needed to get the most out of the garden.
July 18th – What’s that Bug? -- Garden Pests Made Simple
Learn how to identify common garden pests and beneficial insects and discover environmentally friendly ways to manage problems using a practice called integrated pest management. Participants will practice scouting plants, recognizing damage, and using safe, effective pest management techniques without relying on harsh chemicals in the garden.
August 15th – Water Smart – Keep Gardens Healthy in the Summer Heat
The summer heat can be tough on plants…and water bills. This workshop will cover efficient watering strategies, including drip irrigation and soaker hoses. Learn how to check soil moisture, spot signs of heat stress, and water effectively to keep gardens productive during peak summer heat.
September 19th – Fall Gardening & Extending the Harvest
Learn how to transition your garden from summer to fall by planting cool-season crops like lettuce, kale, chard, and radishes. Participants will prepare beds, plant fall vegetables and explore simple season-extension tools like low tunnel hoops to keep gardens growing longer.
October 17th -- Putting the Garden to Bed: Cleanup & Soil Care
End the season the right way and set your garden up for success next year. Learn which plants to remove, how to compost garden debris, and how to protect and improve soil over winter. Participants will also see demonstrations on planting cover crops, mulching, and proper tool care for the off season.
